Effects of culture methods and plant growth regulators on in vitro propagation of Brassavola nodosa (L.) Lindl. hybrid

Abstract Brassavola nodosa (L.) Lindl. is an epiphytic orchid with great potential for the ornamental plant industry. The lack of information on propagation and production techniques limits development large-scale commercial production. Furthermore, this species experiencing a reduction in population due to habitat destruction, impact climate change, over-collection from native habitats. This study aimed at developing efficient protocol micropropagation B. , which could be valuable towards as well conservation species. Six different concentrations growth regulators (BA or IBA, without adenine sulfate) were evaluated modified Murashige Skoog (MS) medium shoot multiplication. In addition, two either NAA IBA rooting. Explants cultured under three culture media conditions: semi-solid medium, liquid (partial immersion), (complete immersion). Results indicate that successfully micropropagated partial immersion. MS supplemented 2.0 mg L −1 BA 30.0 sulfate resulted higher multiplication rates. Rooting was obtained using 0.5 1.0 no significant differences between both rooting treatments. Plantlets achieved 100% ex vitro survival after 30-d acclimatization.
